The History of Hosting

Twenty hosts managing several guests at once — panels, couches, round tables, and halls — from radio's first panel quiz in 1938 to the modern sofa. This is the Table group's film library: watch each clip twice, the second time naming the moves — who gets the floor and why, which collision the host allows, which one gets cooled.

If a clip disappears, the search link below it finds more. Under most clips: a timestamped list of palette moves found in that video's transcript. Quotes are verbatim captions, usually auto-generated, so words and names are sometimes garbled; trust the timestamp over the spelling. Clips without captions on YouTube have no list.

Find a move on film

Pick a palette move; every clip where a host performs it becomes a jump link, timestamped.
